Ulefone positions the Armor 29 Pro as three things at once: a rugged phone, a battery bank and a thermal instrument. Two of those three claims hold up well on the specification. The third depends entirely on what you compare it against.

The thermal camera

This is the reason to buy the phone, so it is worth being precise about it. The sensor is a ThermoVue T2 at 640×512, refreshing at 25 Hz, with a stated measurement range from −20 °C to 550 °C. Ulefone applies two AI passes on top — one for detail sharpening, one described as improving measurement precision — and ships a dedicated ThermoVue app.

640×512 is the number that matters. At that resolution the sensor resolves enough detail for real diagnostic work: tracing a cold bridge across a wall, identifying which terminal in a panel is running hot, spotting a failing bearing, finding a person or animal in low visibility. Lower-resolution modules — including the ones in cheaper thermal phones and in Ulefone's own Armor 27T Pro+ and Mini 20T Pro — will tell you that something is hot without reliably telling you what.

The comparison to make is not against other phones but against a standalone thermal camera. A dedicated entry-level inspection camera sits in similar sensor territory. What you gain here is that it is always with you and the imagery lands directly in a phone you can email from. What you give up is the optics, the ergonomics of a pistol grip, and the calibration workflow of a professional instrument. For a technician who occasionally needs thermal, that trade is good. For someone whose job is thermography, it is a second camera, not a replacement.

Emissivity matters

Any thermal camera reads apparent temperature, not true temperature, and shiny metal surfaces read badly low. If you are taking measurements rather than looking for patterns, learn the emissivity settings before trusting a number.

The same version of the sensor appears in the Armor 28 Ultra Thermal. Ulefone also sells a non-thermal Armor 29 Pro on the identical platform — same battery, same lighting, same body. If the sensor is not the reason you are buying, the cheaper version loses nothing else.

Battery and lighting

21,200 mAh is not a typographical error and it is roughly four times what a conventional flagship carries. Ulefone quotes 120 W charging, with around 20% recovered in ten minutes.

The lighting deserves attention because it is unusually well specified for a phone feature rather than an afterthought. The rear flood light is rated at 1,000 lumens from 570 LEDs at 5 W, with four modes, continuously adjustable brightness and a one-touch custom button. That is genuinely a work light rather than a boosted camera flash. Separately, the phone can act as an emergency beacon with red, blue and alternating red-blue patterns plus selectable alarm tones — aimed at fire, medical and law-enforcement use.

The cost of all this is mass. Ulefone does not lead with weight figures and buyers consistently underestimate them. A phone in this class changes how you carry it: holster or bag rather than trouser pocket.

Everything else

The platform is a Dimensity 7400 on a 4 nm process — competent mid-range silicon, not flagship. The 6.67-inch AMOLED runs at 120 Hz with Gorilla Glass 3, and there is a 1.04-inch AMOLED on the rear for glanceable information without waking the main screen. Ulefone quotes up to 32 GB of memory, which is 16 GB physical plus 16 GB virtual; treat the headline figure with the scepticism that construction deserves.

Camera hardware reads well on paper — a 50 MP main sensor at 1/1.31″, a 64 MP night-vision camera with four infrared LEDs, a 50 MP ultrawide, a 50 MP front camera — and there is a dedicated camera control button on the side. The infrared night-vision camera is the genuinely differentiated one. The main camera is where the reviews and owner reports diverge sharply from the spec sheet.

The accessory connector is easy to overlook and worth flagging: it accepts Ulefone's uSmart endoscope and microscope attachments. For anyone working inside walls, ducts or machinery, a thermal camera and a borescope on the same device is a real combination rather than a marketing one.

Reported weaknesses

These are drawn from published reviews and aggregated owner reports across the Armor range rather than from testing this specific unit. They recur consistently enough to treat as characteristic.

  • Camera output below the megapixel count Low-light and close-focus performance draw persistent criticism across Ulefone models, including at the flagship level. Macro work — photographing a label, a document, a serial plate — is a specific weak point, which is unfortunate on a phone aimed at technicians.
  • Call and microphone clarity Complaints that callers cannot hear the user clearly appear across multiple Ulefone generations and ranges. It is not universal, but it is common enough that it should be the first thing you test in the return window.
  • Durability of the camera housing Owner reports on the wider Armor line include cracked and broken devices well inside a year, with the large protruding rear camera module identified as the likely impact point. The certifications describe controlled laboratory tests, not a guarantee against a bad landing.
  • Update pace and transparency Android update timing is unpredictable, changelogs are thin and there is no rollback path if an update causes problems. If you need a stated security-patch commitment — most corporate deployments do — this is where Ulefone loses outright to Samsung's XCover line.
  • Interface responsiveness Sluggishness is reported on Ulefone devices with very large advertised memory figures. Virtual RAM does not substitute for a faster chip.
